Demo Walkthrough: Split/Second: Velocity

Finally, the time has come where I can play Split/Second at home, well… the demo at least.

I first came across this game at last years Eurogamer in Leeds last October. Andy had little faith in the game, and many times he tried to drag me away from the game as I was too immersed in the high velocity, action packed racer. I then tried to track down the game for a long time but had no progress until The Gadget Show LIVE a few weeks back. Split/Second, now titled ‘Split/Second: Velocity’ was being showcased at the event by GAME.

Anyway, enough of my experiences of the game in other locations (you can read Andy’s Eurogamer impressions here)… you want a demo impression right? Well here goes…

Okay, a week or so ago I received my copy of Ubisoft’s latest Sam Fisher adventure, Splinter Cell: Conviction. What I had pre-ordered and received was not your average copy of the game. So I decided to document the difference in my game with a short video.

So here is This Is My Joystick Unpacked episode number one. I hope all enjoy, this is the first in several planned Unpacked videos to come over the following months.

TIMJ @ The Gadget Show

Gadget Show Live has firmly established itself as the UK’s biggest and best consumer technology event following the phenomenal success of its 2010 show. Taking place at the NEC from the 7th to 11th of April, the show attracted a record 66,114 attendees, more than double the number in attendance at its launch event in 2009.

Based on the popular Channel Five television programme, The Gadget Show Live is a collaboration between North One Television, Five and Upper Street Events and provides visitors with the chance to see, try and buy the very latest in technology. The event had more than 200 exhibitors showcasing their latest products, alongside a host of features where visitors trialled exciting gadgetry and games and had their personal questions answered.

More than 45,000 people attended this year’s Super Theatre which accommodated over 4,000 visitors three times a day. Presenters from the TV show, Jason Bradbury, Suzi Perry, Jon Bentley and Ortis Deley gave a high-energy performance packed with highlights from the TV show, including challenges, audience competitions and appearances from some special guests.

Both Trent and I set out to this massive exhibition to bring you a heavily edited version of what to expect from next years show incase you missed it this year, and a backstage chat with long term Gadget Show presenter, Jason Bradbury! For those of you who did go, why not sit back, relax and enjoy seeing highlights of a truly amazing weekend!

The next stage of TIMJ’s quest for world domination continues! We’ve alluded to it on podcasts and twitter, we’ve teased it to CGN VIP’s, and now we’re finally ready to announce our next project; This Is My Joystick TV!

Before I tell the guys to launch the first episode of TIMJ TV, I decided to whet everyones appetite a little, with what was removed from the final cut.

In this video you will see a few deleted scenes, extra bits and lots and lots of ‘bloopers’ because we could never do it right first time!

Anyway, here it is. Eight minutes of pure gold. Consider it as a sort of trailer for the first episode. Coming soon!

The season 1 beta brought you a live host during the live games, real prizes, real players and lots of fun, and now it’s back for a second season this Christmas.

Eurogamer Expo Video Special

A few weeks ago a sizeable portion of the TIMJ team headed up to Leeds to check out what was on offer at the Eurogamer Expo in October. Hopefully you’ve all been reading the hands on pieces that Si and Andy have been posting, but here’s your chance to see how it went down for youself.

Aside from various footage, the video includes two interviews with members of Team 17 and Ubisoft respectively.

Halo Waypoint Video Preview

Ok, so Halo Waypoint was released to those lucky enough to get on to the ‘Fall update’ preview, and I thought I would drag myself away from DJ Hero long enough just to give you a decent video overview of how the system works.
