I found a cd of Final Fantasy VII in a chinese store a few years back. I love that sound track. Metal Gear Solid 2 was pretty solid. Mass effect has a pretty good effort

I'm going back a long time ago now but I do still love the Final Fantasy VII original sound track by the legend that is Nobuo Uematsu - all 4 discs of it!

I've got the sound track for the Legend of Zelda:Ocarina of Time somewhere too - just love the Song of Storms (windmill song). I've even got it as a ringtone on my phone.

Silent hill 1 on ps1 was too scary for me first time round... I be a wimp I know.... I only got to play it once my parents had gone to bed and the tele was free. Oh and I had to use headphones...big mistake. Sometimes I was too scared to wander around and explore.. very funny now. That fog scared the poop outta me..you just never know what's in it..genius idea.
The soundtrack didn't help either.
Gotta say solid snake on ps1 has a killer soundtrack. Everything about that game was quality. That's when games began having movie like sound and quality.

There Are so many to choose from, most modern games now days do a pretty good job of drawing the gamer in with the sound track (Halo being my fave) but the one that i remember so vividly and takes me back to my days as a kid on holiday with my family is Space Harrier sad i know but it always brings a smile and chuckle when i think of it.

Yay! Another Uncharted fan!

I've got to give special mention to the Bioshock soundtrack, Cohen's Masterpiece being the pinnacle:

This is a really interesting article, particularly as I have been listening to a hell of a lot of game soundtracks lately.

My particular favourites are the Oblivion Soundtrack (Wings of Kynareth and Glory of Cyrodill being stand out tracks) and the Mass Effect Sountrack - Spectre Induction being the best tune on there. I wonder whether I like these soundtracks so much in part because I like the games so much. It is a nice bit of escapism to sit in the office batching invoices while listening to the tune that heralds the event of the first ever human to be welcomed into the Spectres. Because when I listen, that is what I see in my head. BUT, this detracts from the fact that they are straight up fantastic pieces of music in their own right. The Mass Effect Soundtrack conjures up images of Blade Runner, where the future looks endearingly retro - that is not to say that Mass Effect looks retro, rather that the music tips its hat to what has gone before - a nice bit of continuity.

Finaly I would like to mention the Uncharted soundtrack (yes I know I am a serious fangirl for this game!) but what delights me about this is how the tunes differ from chapter to chapter, and yet keep the continuity of the drum beat throughout in some fashion. And Nate's Theme is so spectaclar - I can listen on repeat for hours. It is beautiful, intelligent, unconventional and bold. All words that would describe Nathan Drake himself. Greg has created a materpiece here. I only wish it were longer than 1min46!
