Live E3 News Round Special

~Thanks for the kind words Ray. Hi guys Andy K on board, and it’s my pleasure to bring you all the breaking news from both of today’s Nintendo and Sony press conference’s. After what was largely seen as an underwhelming Microsoft conference yesterday, who will step up and give us that big reveal moment. Nintendo and the highly rumoured 3DS? Or Sony with a PSP2 unveiling? Guess only time will tell, and in under less than an hour Nintendo will be first to show us what they’ll have in the near coming future.~

RumourSony conference will ‘Crush your toes with knowledge’
Source – CVG
With just a few hours to go, Sony marketing staffer Keith Butler has tweeted the following… “Warning: don’t wear flip flops to E3. SCEA will be dropping so much knowledge there, it may crush your toes”. Hope this is code for blow your mind with cool games, although could be interpreted as bore you with sales figures.

~Here we go people. Nintendo press conference is due to start in under two minutes. Can you feel the excitement?~

ConfirmedLegend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
Nintendo open their conference with the reveal Legend Of Zelda: Skyward Sword for the wii. It looks very much like Mario Galaxy, but with Zelda fiction fiction obviously. It would seem this game is motion plus controlled, requiring both the wiimote and nunchuck. Game looks gorgeous for a wii game by the way.

This is an pretty extensive look at the game, and there seems to be plenty to do control wise. However the demo has been plagued with what they are saying is ‘technical’ issues and blaming wi-fi interference for some pretty major control problems they’re having.

ConfirmedMario Sports Mix
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
Nintendo unveil a new Mario sports title pitting Mario and friends in several new sports for the wii. Featuring games like Volleyball, Ice Hockey, Dodge ball and Basketball. No confirmed date, just a 2011 tag on the end of the trailer.

ConfirmedMadden 11, Pes 11, NBA2k 11 & NBA JAM
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
No details, but just screen shots of each titles logo.

ConfirmedWii Party
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
Looks like more party games headed wii owners way. This game boasts to have 13 different types of games, and another 70 mini games within those games. Yeah so more horse races, quiz show type games etc.

ConfirmedJust Dance 2
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
Yep, a follow up is coming this holiday (autumn time). It looks pretty much like the original, but will no doubt have the usual track updates and a few new moves.

ConfirmedGolden Sun: Dark Dawn
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
This is an adventure game very much in the style of the zelda titles and will be coming to the DS later this year. It looked very nice graphically for the ds, but do we need yet another Zelda/pokemon style adventure game?

ConfirmedGoldeneye 007
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
A big reveal! Goldeneye is back and will be a wii exclusive. It will boast 16 game modes and looks to follow plenty of location settings from a lot of the past films. It looks pretty nice and seems to have Daniel Craig in the cut scenes. No confirmed release dates, just the usual “coming this holiday”

~Sorry guys. they are pumping out title reveals so fast I am struggling to keep up. I’ll try my best!~

ConfirmedDisney Epic Mickey
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
For the wii, Mickey mouse will be hitting you with 3 different game styles within one game. Each style is called a location and will feature a different kind of play mode. The one they showed was a level where you can edit the environment as you go. there also a game between the locations, it’s a side scroller that is set in the Mickey Mouse classic, steam boat willie.

ConfirmedKirby’s Epic Yarn
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
After 7 years since his/her last title, Kirby is back with a brand new wii game. It looks like it’s one for the younger kids with it’s art style. Still the same side scroller style, very Mario-esque. Never played a Kirby game myself so that’s all I can compare it to.

ConfirmedDragon Quest 9: Sentinels Of The Starry Sky
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
The game boasts 120 mini quests with additional ones for wi-fi play, however they didn’t set a number for those. This game is trying to push multi-player action and can hold a 3 player game for you to quest on. To be honest without the 3 player action, I’m not sure this game would be all that.

ConfirmedMetroid Other M
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
Metroid is back and on the wii. You get the feeling Nintendo are relying on old franchises this year? lol. Anyway the game is a mix with some side scrolling, 3rd and 1st person elements all bundled in. The marketing guy is really pushing home the isolation & exploration factor to the game. Wow we also have a release date, August 31st. Looks very good… For a wii game.

ConfirmedDonkey Kong Country Returns
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
Yet another old franchise back for some more action. Yeah this looks like some more Donkey Kong. Looks pretty, I especially liked the silhouette stage shown on the trailer. Bright, colourful and side scrolling. Holiday release.

~Okay the big reveal…~

ConfirmedNintendo 3DS
Source – Nintendo E3 Conference
They’ve released the show stopper! I’m calling it now, 3DS wins E3 for Nintendo. Wanna know more? Well here you go.

The new 3DS is here as expected, and in the same DS lite sized handheld they’ve packed in enough to change the future. Firstly it’s 3D so you need glasses right? NO! The 3D will not require you to walk round like a someone from specsavers advert. they’re really pushing home this fact, and I admit it is impressive you don’t need glasses. As I said, same size as the lite, however there are some notable differences. The two screen sizes are different, the top screen is the larger being 3.5″ and it will produce full 3D (What’s full 3D?).

The 3DS will have a 3D depth slider. This is so you can control the amount of 3D in the game, and you can in fact reduce it right down to just a normal 2D game if you so wish. The speaker says that there will be an upgrade in the graphics, but he hasn’t said to what? 16bit? 32? Give us a clue buddy!

Another notable new addition is the 3DS has an analogue stick as well as the old D-pad, nice. Also it comes with motion and Cryo sensors on the cameras, yeah I said it right, cameras! 3DS has two cameras so that it can take 3D pictures, I gotta see that! Also announced is that the 3DS is backward compatible and will play DS lite games, so you don’t need to ditch your old games. And another mightly impressive reveal is that the 3DS will play 3D films, and deals with Disney, Warner Brothers and Dreamworks have been done. In fact How To Train Your Dragon will be viewable on the E3 show floor later today.

Finally the games, they show a big reveal trailer for the new 3D Kid Icarus Uprising game. Of course watching it on stream there is no evidence it’s 3D, but the guy says it is. Looked good, but I don’t see these graphical improvements he talked about? also on screen appears all the logos of third party publishers that are working on 3D titles for the new machine. All the big boys are in, Activison, Disney, Capcom, THQ etc. Most impressive of all though is the list of 3D titles coming by the developers, here is just a few of the many listed.

  • Nintendogs & Cats
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Resident Evil
  • Assassins Creed
  • Madden (didn’t say 11 though, so who knows when)
  • Saints Row

And that was it, show over. My jaw was on the floor with what they say the 3DS can do, if they deliver on all of that, plus all the online capabilities it has, then Nintendo have made a handheld that will blow our minds.

~Wow. Can I stop and breath now? They certainly were going through those game reveals like nobody’s business. I really hope the Sony conference isn’t that frantic. Oh and that Sony conference starts in an hour folks, so stick here with us for all the latest.~

~Okay guys, I’ve scoffed down some food and am now poised to bring you all the breaking details from the Sony E3 conference. With Nintendo showing off the awesome looking 3DS, Sony bring out something big if they’re going to impress. If their major announcement is the PSP2 then I hope it has some pretty neat tricks if it’s going to compete with it’s rival.~

Conference started off with a lot of 3D chat, mentioning the Sony Bravia 3D and also that a system software update will make your PS3 to 3D ready. Also stated that 20 titles ready to go by March 2011.

ConfirmedKillzone 3 (also 3D)
Source – Guerrilla Games
Demo is shown through two separate sections of level 4 apparently. This demo is in 3D, so all the members of the audience is enjoying that. Me watching a stream on my laptop, well I can’t see the 3D but it still looks pretty awesome anyway. Some kind of Mech jet pack being shown in the demo, looks sweet. Apparently it will also have Playstation Move capability. Released February 2011.

They have just listed a load of games that will be 3D. Listed to fast to note all of the down, but titles like Grand Turisom 5, Mortal Kombat, Tron Evolution, Crysis 2 are reeled off. Also current titles like MLB 10 The Show, Tumble and few others will be playable in 3D.

~Whaaa. They sold over 7 million Playstation 2′s last year. That’s 2, not 3! Crazy~

Things are shifting to the Playstation Move now. They’re saying their motion tracking is the best in the industry… Really? They’re really taking a pop at 360′s Kinect, telling you your games need buttons. mentions, of Socom 4, EyePet to name a couple.

ConfirmedSorcery
Source – Sony E3 Conference
Third person action adventure for the Playstation Move. You play as a sorcerer’s apprentice learning spells and such. They’re really trying to show why you need buttons for more options when playing a motion sensor game. I have to admit it does actually look good. Maybe the Move isn’t the joke we thought it was.

ConfirmedTiger Woods 11 (PS Move)
Source – Sony E3 Conference
Here we have Tiger 11 and again they are showing off how well the game plays using the Move. There are no pre-canned animations, all is real-time fluid motion which is read by your movement of the Move controller. It’s all about the realism of handling the clubs you have in the game and the accuracy the Move delivers. This isn’t a new game itself, and an update via the PSN will make your already owned copy work on the Move.

ConfirmedHeroes On the Move (PS Move)
Source – Sony E3 Conference
This game is a Playstation Move exclusive and features 6 of the best PS2 characters like Clank, Daxter, and few others I’m personally not familiar with. It’s an action adventure game and with the Move you control the battle. It looks a nice pretty good, swinging an axe about looks fun! No doubt out in the holidays as they like to say.

PS3 conference is by far the funniest and most entertaining! Kevin Butler is killing it. Playstation Move will be out in September 15th in Europe, and North America on the 19th. However the Move and it’s controller aren’t sold together, although there will be a bundle which comes with Move and one controller. The fact they are sold separately didn’t go down well.

Playstation Move titles out by the end of the year will be. The Fight: Lights Out, Buswick Pro Bowling, Sports Champions, Start And Party, EyePet, Heroes On The Move, TV Superstars, Socom 4, Time Crisis: Razing Storm, Resident Evil Gold Edition, LOTR Aragon’s Quest, Tron Evolution, and finally Sorcery.

The focus has now moved to the PSP, featuring the little black kid from the film Role Models saying why the PSP is awesome. Are we buying it though??

ConfirmedInvizimals
Source – Sony E3 Conference
Nothing really shown, but uses the PSP peripheral camera.

ConfirmedGod Of War: Ghost Of Sparta
Source – Sony E3 Conference
A game trailer is shown, but no in game footage. They’re not going into a lot of detail about the PSP games, just saying why the machine is good and why we the consumer should play it.

There are 70 new titles headed for the PSP. That’s to many to list but things like UFC, Kingdom Of hearts, The Third Birthday, Persona Portable, Valkaria II are all headed to the handheld in the future.

Now we seemed talking about Playstation Network and Home. A lot of waffle about deals with TV and Movie companies. Cool move though, on Playstaion Network you can take a virtual tour of this years Playstation set up at the E3 show floor (I’ll be doing that).

ConfirmedLittle Big Planet 2
Source – Media Molecule
The focus here is on the Playstation’s play, create, share philosophy. That works no better than with Little Big Planet. So the new game will have tones and tones of new creative controls, and you’ll be able to make games that use the six axis controls. Loads of new game types, showing off community made games. Also showing off the multi-player element. All looks good, but you’d expect that as a sequel. Top down games seem to be a big instalment to the gameplay in number 2.

It has been announced that Playstation Network will stay free, but Sony are releasing Playstation Plus which is a subscription based membership. You’ll get dlc, early releases, access to free old PS1 games and a tone of other services apparently. Pricing for North America is $49 for a year, not sure about Europe though as they didn’t say?

Finally the games, we move to the forthcoming PS3 titles.

ConfirmedMedal Of Honor (Exclusive Content)
Source – EA
EA have announced that they will be bringing exclusive content to the PS3 version of the game that will be out October 12th. Not to much details, but there is a trailer that involves quad bikes driving off the side of a mountain. Also showing and exclusive map Diwagal something? I maybe not the best person to comment on this as I feel the Gaming world is over saturated with FPS war games and they all look the same to me. Also content will include old Medal Of Honor game… Front Line.

ConfirmedDead Space 2
Source – Visceral Games
Hmm, this is the exact same trailer Microsoft showed yesterday isn’t it? Yes they it is! However they announce exclusive content coming for the PS3. One of which will be Dead Space Extraction, yeah the wii title!

ConfirmedPortal 2
Source – Valve Corporation
Gabe Newell just walked out… As Andy C said, he hates PS3! Obviously not anymore. He is here to promote Portal 2 coming to the PS3 for first time. They show a beautiful looking trailer, it looks sharp and as crisp as ever. And it will be here in 2011.

ConfirmedFinal Fantasy XIV Online
Source – Sony E3 Conference
Trailer shown of cgi action, no game footage but it looks good if you like the JRPG thing. No more details though other than the trailer.

ConfirmedAssassins Creed: Bloodbrothers
Source – Ubisoft
They announce that the multi-player mode of the game will run it’s beta as an exclusive to PSN. They then show a new trailer featuring the multi-player elements. It looks awesome!

A trailer is then shown of all the games coming for the PS, most are mentioned above, some are already out which is odd. Those not mentioned before are the likes of Pixel Junk shooter, Castlevania: Lords Of Shadows, Dead Nation, DC Universe, The Sly Collection, Marvel Vs Capcom3 and NCAA Football 11.

ConfirmedGrand Turismo 5
Source – Sony – Polyphony Digital
Been a long time coming, but it’s almost ready it would appear. The trailer is shown and it looks absolutely stunning! Realistic almost. However there is no in game footage shown? It’s out November 2nd, they say it will play in 3D. Looks Awesome, and so it should the amount of time that things been in development.

ConfirmedInfamous 2
Source – Sony – Sucker Punch Productions
The sequel has been announced and a trailer is shown. again it looks impressive, but it’s not really showing much. No date given or anything like that. Development is still pretty early I guess.

ConfirmedTwisted Metal
Source – Sony Entertainment
A big reveal… Apparently? An elaborate trailer is shown with humans in it, then the old ice cream truck from the previous games drives out on stage. The dev guys show up and show us some of the game. This car used to be car combat, but there does seem to be a flying element as I can see a helicopter and err… A building that straight disappears when you fly right by it? The maps look huge and very impressive, it looks like a lot of carnage can be caused.

And that’s it guys, the E3 press conferences are over! Question is, who impressed you most, what are you looking forward to in the coming months? And most importantly WHO WON E3???

~Thanks to those who followed the coverage, we appreciate you greatly. Anyway that’s enough of me, I’ll hand back to Ray to wrap the E3 2010 press coverage up for us. Andy K signing out!~

~Thanks again Andy, great job! Wow, some surprises in there for sure. There’s still more news trickling in though so lets get to it!~

Confirmed - Reach to get Firefight
Source – CVG
Finally, Bungie have said that Firefight will be making a return to Halo Reach this September. This was a point of contention among many gamers who were unsure if it would make  a comeback but now its been made offical. Apparently, the co-op experience has been improved and will also include matchmaking! Also, the Generator Defense mode in the Beta was Bungie’s way of testing Firefight. Interesting…

Confirmed - Zelda: Ocarina of Time coming to 3DS amidst lots of other new games
Source – CVG, IGN, Eurogamer
A remake of a game many consider the greatest of all time, The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time will be coming to the 3DS and will of course, be compatible with 3D! Awesome!!

In addition to that, other new games have been announced for the 3DS including DJ Hero, Rock Band,  Animal Crossing, Pilotwings, Paper Mario, Mario Kart, Starfox and Ridge Racer. It’s also been confirmed that the Metal Gear Solid game due out for 3DS will indeed be Snake Eater and if screenshots are to be believed, the Resident Evil title will indeed be a version of Resident Evil 5! Is that even possible on a handheld?! Either way, it seems to be a pretty packed lineup eh?

Speculation is that the 3DS will launch somewhere in the World (assumedly Japan!) this year and it is expected to have a release of early 2011 in Europe.

Confirmed - Gears 3 Beast mode is Horde Mode mirrored
Source – IGN
Think you couldn’t be any more hyped for Gears of War 3? Think again. The Beast mode that Cliffy B mentioned at the Xbox Press Conference is in fact a version of Horde mode that has you playing as Locust in an effort to kill Cogs! You can play anything from a Kantus, a Berserker to a Ticker! Unlike in Horde mode, you’ll have more than one life, but you will need to adopt strategies more than ever before! So yeah, it’s Horde Mode but its reversed. Is it April yet??

Confirmed - Heavy Rain to get Move support
Source – CVG
Apparently thanks to an upcoming patch, you will be able to use Playstation Move with the interactive masterpiece. This will enable you to use more gesture based movements instead of simple button presses. Will definitely make the experience all the more interactve, although early indications suggest it may not be using the capabilities of Move to the full. We shall see in October.

Confirmed - Motorstorm Apocalypse to be in 3D!
Source – CVG
The next racing game in the Motorstorm series is definitely going to be in 3D when it launches. This could make for some seriously awesome gameplay, especially when you consider how stunts could appear. Certainly adds appeal to an already excellent series.

News - Zelda Devs nearly ‘gave up’ on Motion Plus
Source – CVG
Apparently the development of Zelda was set to not include Wii Motion Plus at one point but after playing Wii Sports Resort, the device has now had a huge impact on the development of the title. I assume this is after experimenting with the archery and the potential open to devs after seeing it play out ingame. Still, its interesting how developers would even consider not including Motion Plus in such an important Wii game.

Confirmed – Little Big Planet 2 out in November
Source – CVG
LBP 2 will be joining the Xmas fray this November for Playstation 3 it has been confirmed. With Move support in tow, this is sure to be a big seller for Sony and a great way to promote their new tech. Not long now folks!

Confirmed - Darksiders 2 is on the way
Source – CVG
Due to its success earlier this year, Darksiders 2 has inevitably been announced and will be out in 2012 THQ have said. Its great to see the success of the game has granted it a sequel and we’re sure to hear more about this one in the coming months.

Confirmed – Saints Row 3 not at show to rebuild its tech
Source – CVG
It appears Saints Row 3 will not be on hand at E3 this year because the development team needs another year for developing its technology. Don’t worry though, THQ spokesman said you will get your first look at Saints Row 3 at the Spike TV awards in December this year.

In other Saints Row news, a 3DS version of the game is on the way announced at E3 as well as a feature length film. It certainly seems THQ have some big ideas for the franchise!
