Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee to get HD makeover
August 9, 2012, Author: Phil Ubee, 1 Comment
Exciting news has come from Eurogamer today that this year’s Eurogamer Expo (which we here at TIMJ will be covering), will include a developer session with Lorne Lanning, the head honcho of all things Oddworld, during which Abe HD will be showcased.
“Today we’re very pleased to reveal that this year’s Eurogamer Expo will include a developer session for Oddworld: Abe’s Oddysee HD. Oddworld Inhabitants megaboss Lorne Lanning is flying over from California to present it and share brand new details about the game with attendees.
Lanning and UK studio Just Add Water, which is the exclusive developer of titles based on the Oddworld brand, will be on stage at 2.30pm on Sunday 30th September to talk about the history of the series and showcase Abe HD.”
Abe’s Oddysee was the flagship title in the multi award-winning Oddworld series, and in my humble opinion is still one of the best platform games ever made. Not only did it bring some truly groundbreaking graphics to the Playstation, but its story and lead character Abe completely drew you in with a wonderful blend of charm and humour.
Suffice it to say, we will take our seat at the session and will bring you all the details of what is now my most anticipated HD makeover… ever!

While I sucked at it I did enjoy the Abe games and with the news that Strangers Wrath is also getting a HD airbrushing it looks like our consoles will be flooded with Oddworld before we know it!
The only issue I can see is that the Abe games were hard and tricky to play and the current generation of console owners may find them too fiddly. I know I felt that simply jumping a gap felt awkward back in the day so I can't imagine how the twitch-gamers of today, so used to their instant reactions and smooth control, will react to having to press the jump button a full second before the gap. We shall see.
