State of Decay announced for XBLA & PC

We don’t tend to make a massive fuss over trailers and such over here at This Is My Joystick (we didn’t even do so for GTAV’s screenies), however, as a lifelong fan of zombie fiction, I couldn’t resist posting the trailer for State of Decay, coming to XBLA and to PC at a yet unspecified date.

The game by Undead Labs is yet another sandbox Zombie Apocalypse simulator and, judging by the trailer, looks to fall somewhere between Dead Rising and the ArmA II mod, DayZ.

“We’ve all sat around with friends, debating the best ways to survive the zombie apocalypse. Well, the time for speculation is over; State of Decay will let you put your personal survival plan to the test.” boldly states an announcement on the developer’s official site.

It’s true, though, we have all done that!

The game will apparently see players take to a dynamic, real-time landscape where their actions will have a direct effect on the world around them. Survival will play a key part, but the strategy for that survival will be entirely their own, as they not only choose where to make a foothold, but how to protect their party. Players must also forage for food, water and ammo from depleting stocks in the surrounding areas, while rescuing survivors that might be of use to their settlement.

I’ll admit, the action in the trailer looks a tad ropey, but it’s certainly shaping up to be an ambitious project for an XBLA release, combining many different elements in combat, stealth and survival.

Colour me interested.

Looks good but I hope they're not basing it on the assumption that people think that getting to shoot a zombie every half an hour and spending the rest of the time scavenging for food in bins and looking for wooden boards is great fun. I'm all for survival as long as it's balanced with action.

Yeah...otherwise it just sounds like your average Saturday night in Hackney.
