BACKGROUND:
Based on Robert Kirkman’s ground-breaking graphic novels, The Walking Dead is an episodic Adventure Horror game series set during the same apocalyptic period witnessed by Sheriff Rick Grimes. Telling the story of a new group of survivors as they struggle to flee the horror of Atlanta and the surrounding communities consumed by the undead, The Walking Dead offers players the chance to experience the very first days of the apocalypse, meeting people and participating in events that intersect with the story seen in the comic books.

“Collaborating with Telltale on The Walking Dead continues to be a fantastic process. They understand the world and the characters that I created and what it takes to make a game out of them. What’s really exciting is that they’re telling a new story with new characters, so you’ll get to see the same world Rick Grimes did, but now from a different point of view - The Walking Dead is going to be a unique zombie game.”
- Robert Kirkman, creator of The Walking Dead.

Kirkman has also stated that, unlike typical zombie games such as Left 4 Dead, it will focus more on characterization and emotion than action.

The Walking Dead is a five part episodic Adventure Horror game that will be available for digital download beginning in spring of 2012 for all major gaming platforms.

This looks like it might be a cool game but why do they always have to have some shit-eating presenter for these things? Why do we need it to be a bloody talk show with some bozo cracking jokes. We want to see two things; game footage/screens/concepts and the devs talking about it. Grrrr just a pet hate of mine.

Can't wait for Ep 3 of this 'Playing Dead' malarkey so I can see some godam gameplay footage!

I'm more optimistic now I've seen some lengthy gameplay. I'm hoping it doesn't just feel like Broken Sword 3 with zombies though. They keep saying it's really unique but at the moment it looks like a basic Travelers Tales point n click game with some neat application of story branching. Although to be honest I don't know what else I was expecting lol.

Also wondering about the control. By the looks of things you use the Left Stick to move and the Right stick to move the pointer about. Then what, use the face buttons to pick an action? I can see that constant thumb switching getting annoying, although obviously I won't know until I give it a try.

Also not too hot on the art style. It bares similarities to the comic but the book is grittier and has a darker tone to it. I understand the need to bring colour into the game but those stupid, boggly Travelers Tales eyes just look ridiculous. Maybe it just reminds me too much of the shite-awful Back To The Future games they shat out a while back. That was the only time I ever wished something BTTF didn't exist. I think outside of the Walking Dead maybe the art style would be cool, but to me it doesn't really work in the universe. Oh well.

EDIT: Just looked at the 'pre-order bonus'. Now I know people bitch about these all the time and I've always defended them but COME ON. At least when I pre-order Doomshell 3 or whatever from Play.com I KNOW I'm going to get my exclusive Megalodon Shotgun with that order. With this, chances are you'll get shite all! It's a cool thing but I think calling it a 'pre-order bonus' is a bit cheeky. Only 6 people in total will actually get anything but a measly 10% off the game (which at $5 an episode is a WHOPPING 50c WOW!!). Then again, I've always said that if you intend to buy it on release day, why not pre=order it regardless of any bonuses?

On a personal note, I downloaded episode one of the game at the weekend, and i'm thoroughly enjoying it.

If you enjoy games where decisions you make matter - this is a no brainer (sorry) :P

Heh.
