I think the problem is it takes longer to get into Battlefield. Took me ages to get to grips with BC2 but once I did it was amazing. Modern Warfare is simpler and more immediately rewarding with points and level-ups and unlocks coming thick and fast at the start. I dunno I can't see how BF3 can suck but then again I aint played it so...

Phil, are you basing that primarily on the multiplayer? If so, then it doesn't change a thing for me, as I base a good game on the single player first.

Personally speaking, I think a lot of the gaming community have got it arse-backwards, but that's just my opinion.

I am basing this purely on the multiplayer demo I played this weekend, which I admit, is unlikely to be a fair reflection of the game as a whole.

I am like you Paddy in that the Single Player story is the primary reason for any purchase I make with Multiplayer being the bonus or "icing on the cake". Unfortunately I didn't get time to have a look at the Single player demo they had on show which I have been told was very good.

I am also slightly biased in that I have very little history with the franchise as a whole and withot wanting to start a fanboy war with anyone (looking at Trent) am a BIG Modern Warfare fan.

Lol I'm not much of a fanboy, it's more my hatred for Call of Duty and what it's become than my love for Battlefield.

My main crack is that while I'm sure MW3 will be a decent game in it's own right, it will undoubtedly be less intuitive, progressive and deep than BF3. It also feels like Activision and whoever the fuck is developing it now couldn't care less about refining the experience and creating a great game as much as making sure everyone who bought MW2 will buy MW3 and packing it with enough fireworks to get other people to buy it. From what I've read from interviews with DICE blokes their number one priority is to make a great game with depth, excitement and originality for the single player and tactical intuitiveness for the MP with fresh ideas and experiences and a focus on teamwork and objectives.

Just seems like DICE genuinely want to make a great game and Activision just want MW3 to sell fucktons and make them lots of money. Couple that with the fact that MW3 looks to me like MW2 with shine applied and BF3 looks to reshape our concepts of a modern war-based FPS, it's not a tough decision for me.

I agree with you Trent. Of course, it's all going to come out in the wash soon enough one way or the other, but my money is on exactly what you said yourself.

Phil, totally agree (up until the CoD part anyway) ;)
