Re: OnLive: Leaving Hype Station
For me, (3rd party 'control' issues aside) the thing that really irks me about this type of media - be it music, movies or indeed gaming, is the fact that the price-point for such ephemeral media is far too high.
Take mp3 albums for example. Why on Earth would anyone want to buy the latest #1 album for 8.99 or more on iTunes, when it makes more sense to buy a physical copy and burn it. The only reason is impatience - the cache to be able to feed ones ego and boast to friends that you've heard it before they have.
The same can be said for movies and tv shows, buying a season pass often equates to pretty much the same (or in some bizarre cases, more) as it would be to purchase a physical copy.
Don't misunderstand my point here people, I am not saying that there is no place for Cloud Gaming, or indeed digital copy, neither am I saying that the creators of such media should be penalised for the hard work they undoubtedly put in to their creations, far from it. However, until corporate greed takes a back seat and the financial playing field is leveled, I'll stick to what I know best.
