Re: Metal Gear Solid: HD Collection
This must have been a tough nut to crack with so much content on offer but you've done an admirable job mate
While I think the collection is good I don't think it goes far enough at all to hook in new fans. Despite the HD updates and the addition of a stick and few extra buttons for Peacewalker, they're still pretty much the same games. As a nostalgia trip it kind of alienated me as well. It only highlighted how far games have come since Snake Eater and MGS2. The limitations of the series trademark control system are laid bare. After deftly sneaking through Splinter Cell Conviction and both Batman games, going back to Snake's clunky crawling and wall-sticking was really tough.
It's hard to deny that the games are classics in their own right, and when they came out I loved them... well I loved MGS2 anyway lol. I only played Peacewalker once as I never owned a PSP and I never really got on with Snake Eaters jungle setting.
I dunno, I just think some MGS fans will be dissapointed with the lack of real updating that's been done and newly interested parties will find it tough to grasp the pace and control style of these games which are still, mechanically at least, pretty old. The only differences between playing MGS2 and Snake Eater on PS2 and playing them on 360 are slightly better graphics and the conmfort of the Xbox 360 controller. You can pick up both games for about a fiver each (max) from Gamestation so Peacewalker is the only essential part of the collection really. Having the original games is also pretty cool, as they were on the PC Engine and only released in Japan!
