Re: Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Don't even know where to begin with this one.
What a mess eh, Trent?
There are actually some great ideas in Raccoon City. They're just direly executed.
Playing this Solo is a big NO-NO. Don't do it to yourself. Either you've got friends to play with, or you don't play at all. There isn't even any split-screen in the game. You're wholly reliant on playing this over XBL.
I managed to make it through to the end with Laurie, but that was a struggle, and frankly, it wasn't healthy for our relationship. We had at least five full-blown arguments because we kept dying, only to realise it was the game's shoddy mechanics and unfair tempo that were pushing us to this point.
Think long and hard before you purchase this. I'm as big a Resi fan as they come, and I would have regretted buying this.
A real shame

Another massive Resident Evil fan here but to say this game is a disappointing mess would be an understatement. Think this one is for hardcore fans only, which is a real shame

So basically it's SOCOM all over again, right?! I really don't want to make Slant Six employees feel bad, but how the hell do they get to work on high caliber projects like this? Somethings going horribly wrong over at that studio and they should really think hard about their gameplay design choices that ultimately suck 90% of the fun out of the game especially in single player.
Great review by the way, "... which makes picking your squad like choosing a football team from a bunch of writers, artists, musicians and philosophers; none of them have the applicable skills and you know you’re fucked." this had me laugh hard for a whole minute

Apparently it doesn't end here.
They're working on yet another massive unannounced project for a major studio. I'm assuming another world-renowned franchise has been outsourced to them.

Re: Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
It's such a shame, because this concept had legs IMO. Big fan of Resident Evil 2 as well, so it's a double hit to the bollocks.
Off it goes to the bottom of the pile o' shame...

Re: Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City
Slant Six basically make sub-par games that HAVE to be played with friends. You can't even play this shit with strangers; the level of coordination needed for success in the later levels is impossible to achieve unless everyone is working together. Either it's a cunning ploy to get groups of friends to buy the game that fails because the games are so fucking bad, or simply they're so deluded they think swamping you with waves of enemies and making the AI so bad they might as well just be scarecrows is the way forward. Either way, they suck at making games
