Head to Head: Will PES 2010 sink or swim?
With Neil’s post the other day about the upcoming annual tribal war between FIFA and PES, I’ve decided it would be a good time to make this one of our famed ‘head to heads’.
Personally, I was always PES fanboy at heart, and such was my love for the game I had more than a helping hand in the birth of the old site ‘Pro Evo Network’, which was massively important in helping shape the Complete Gaming Network as you know it today. FIFA was always a mixed bag, and you knew you would always get the best football simulation in PES. Over the last three years that hierarchy has been completely turned on its head. FIFA is currently the most popular sim, and PES has struggled to keep the fans happy. I would even go as far to say that FIFA 09 is the game that PES6 should have been, based on how well it plays.
Every year I always approach both games with an open mind, and judge which one will be my priority by the inevitable demos that grace the interwebs, and this year will be no different. Even now with the past three years and Konami doing nothing but disappointing me, a small part of me still hopes that it recaptures its former glory, despite FIFA’s bells and whistles. Whether it will or not is a different story entirely.
So I ask you in the most clichéd way possible: Will PES surprise us with the old ‘form is temporary, class is permanent’ citation, or are we going to be giving the new game an early bath?
