The Power Of Plus
March 5, 2013, Author: Ariana Hester
In the latest PS Blog, Jim Ryan, SCEE President and CEO, spoke about their plans for the future of Playstation Plus.
As seems to be the way with Sony recently, nothing concrete was mentioned, meaning Sony continue to be the biggest tech-teasers on the planet.
“We’re very happy with the service that we’ve been able to offer with PS Plus. It’s been really well received – the value is quite extraordinary and the take-up has trebled over the course of the past year. We definitely see that as a core part of the way forward. We’re not yet in a position to disclose our plans for the future of PlayStation Plus but there will definitely be a prominent role to play for it in the PlayStation 4 landscape.”
PS+ has already proven itself valuable in the lifespan of the PS3 (and recently the Vita), more than exceeding its $50 price tag. It will be interesting to see how it’s handled in the coming generation. With Gaikai’s streaming being a big part Sony’s future, let’s hope that it’s part of the future of the PS+ initiative and let’s keep our fingers crossed that PS+ isn’t reduced to the standard of the Xbox LIVE Gold ‘service’. AKA paying to play your games online.
In light of Sony’s intent on backing the PS+ membership, those who currently subscribe are no doubt in for a real treat. Those who do not may miss out on the full experience.
