TIMJ: Social networking on your Xbox 360

November 16, 2009, Author: Neil Hughes

As I’m sure you are all aware, the Xbox Live update will have now been unleashed on many of you out there. Joe has already supplied a full video guide for your eyes and ears to feast on, so I won’t ramble on too much about the exciting stuff coming your way.

As the humble Xbox 360 prepares to be turned into a veritable multimedia hub, the good news is whilst gaming you now have no excuse to be away from your pals at This Is My Joystick, so rather than staring at the screen saying ‘what use is this to me?’ why not come and find us?

First of all there are two areas on Facebook that you can follow us on, which will be constantly updated with our latest articles, reviews and news. Please join our Facebook Group and whilst on the site you can also “Become a Fan” of This is My Joystick which will also keep you updated on everything so you never need miss out.

Most people seem to waste time on Facebook by becoming fans of sleep or other mundane concepts; I urge you to become a fan of us, we like to think we’re much more interesting than sleep at least.

If you have somehow resisted the urge to join Twitter then this is your opportunity; there are many reasons to follow us on Twitter and  the beauty is you will get to hear everything as it happens. Gaming bargains and price reductions for example, that we post throughout the day; gaming announcements news and competitions all will be delivered to your Twitter account on your Xbox 360 if you simply follow us on Twitter. You can also follow all our boys individually by checking out their profiles on the staff pages.

For me the introduction of Last FM is one of the most exciting additions to the Xbox 360.  As a long time user the best aspect of the site is the more you listen the more it gets to know your personal taste and will help you discover loads of great tunes that are not played on your conventional radio stations. The only downside of Last FM is every song you ever listen to is recorded on your profile for all to see, so if your guilty pleasures in life are Daniel O’Donnell, Kenny G or Michael Bolton, be warned the whole world will be able to see. However, what I wanted to tell you about was the This Is My Joystick Stereo Group page on Last FM, which basically lets you see what we are all listening too, and if we get enough members we’ll will also have our very own This Is My Joystick weekly music chart.

Away from your XBox 360, I thought it would be an excellent opportunity to tell you all about other areas we occupy on the internet. Our Flickr page can be found here and our YouTube page can be found here.

We are expecting quite a lot of activity in all the areas mentioned above as well, so make sure you add us to your friends list send us a message as we always love to hear from you all. Don’t forget the main website though as we have some very special treats coming your way.
