Not Kidding Around – Supergiant Games’ New Title Is Here

March 20, 2013, Author: Matt Parker

Bastion. That was a fine game, wasn’t it? Some lush visuals, great combat that held a deceptive amount of depth, a fantastic world with an understated story brought together by some lovely narration. I might just stop writing this and go play some Bastion right now.

But I won’t! Instead, I’ve got to tell you about Supergiant Games’ newest project. It’s called Transistor and much like Bastion, it looks lovely.

Setting itself up as ‘science-fiction RPG’, you’ll be playing the role of a heroine that’s come to own a mysterious weapon. It turns out that a whole bunch of people are after said weapon and so your fight for survival begins.

The video makes it look like it could be grid based, or maybe my eyes are playing tricks on me. Other than that, it’s kind of hard to extrapolate just how the game plays. Physical attacks and magic seem to be present, anything else would just be wild speculation.

Grid based combat or does Matt need new glasses? Only time will tell.

With all of the recent talk about ‘women in videogames’, I’ve got to say it’s pleasing to see a female take the lead-role. How this is ‘still a thing’ in 2013 is beyond me.

A girl!? In a videogame!? Well I never!

Expected out in early 2014, there’s no mention of platforms just yet though the team will be at PAX East this week, so hopefully we’ll get more details coming out of that.
