Price Watch: Call of Duty: Modern Warfare

November 7, 2011, Author: Neil Hughes

Once again, we find ourselves preparing for potentially the biggest release of the year. This is, of course, the all too familiar yearly Call of Duty instalment from Activision, which could also end up being your most expensive gaming purchase, unless you shop around. Luckily for you I have been scouring all of the bargain websites out there so you don’t have to.

Keep checking this article as I will keep updating it with the other Supermarket prices as I receive them. All so you are fully prepared for the biggest gaming release of 2011.

One question gamers must ask before buying any game now is: “Will I be buying the DLC?” This is a very important question especially when you think about purchasing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3. As many of you are already aware, Activision have introduced an Elite premium subscription deal, which includes all DLC for the year for 4000 Microsoft Points. Yes, this is quite expensive but if you are going to buy four map packs at 1200 Microsoft Points each, over the next 12 months, this will actually save you money.

The more savvy gamers may have recently pre-ordered the Hardened Edition that also includes the Elite subscription for £55-60, depending on what promotional codes you used. This package has now gone back up to over £70, so with all this in mind let’s have a look at the offers out there.

£28.98 using code EXM5OFF25-1 at Tesco

Before you buy the game, if you want to sign up to Elite and seal all future DLC map packs, you can pick up 2x 2100 points cards for £28.98 at Tesco if you use the promotional code “EXM5OFF25-1”. If you are a Playstation gamer, don’t worry because you can pick up a £25 PSN card for only £20 using the same code.

The cheapest price for the game on its own with no strings attached is Best Buy, where you can buy MW3 for a cool £29.99 instore only. If you have one near you, this will be the cheapest deal for you and using the codes for Microsoft Points at Tesco, you could potentially also secure the Elite package for a total price of £58.97, if you are a hardcore COD fan.

Cheapest no strings attached deal £29.99 at Best Buy

A quick update as Best Buy have also announced that from 11am tomorrow, the first 500 online orders will get Modern Warfare 3 for only £27.99 no strings attached.

Supermarket giant Tesco are offering the game for only £25 if brought with selected points and membership cards. There was a £5 off at Tesco voucher in Saturday’s Sun newspaper on a £40 spend, so have a look in your family’s recycling box as this might come in handy. In theory you could pick up the game for £25, 4200 points for £35 and then if use the Sun voucher to bring the price down to £55.

If you have the £5.00 Sun voucher and need a points card, this could be the deal for you.

Sainsbury’s are offering the game for only £28.99 if you spend £30 instore, so if you need to do your weekly shop or wanted to fill the fridge with beer and snacks, this may be the deal for you.

£28.99 if you spend £30 in-store at Sainsbury

Morrisons will sell you Modern Warfare 3 for £25 if you purchase a Xbox Live Gold Membership + 2 Months card which will give you 14 months Xbox Live for £34.99. So this deal will only be helpful if you are due to renew your subscription.

Morrisons deal is only tempting if you need to renew Xbox Live.

As always though, the golden rule of looking for the best price is to remember that it’s only a bargain if you actually want the item in question. Battlefield fans will probably scoff at the expense of the Elite package, but could end up paying more in DLC over 12 months anyway, but ultimately it all depends on what you will be choosing as your weapon of choice.

You may even decide to shun them all to immerse yourself in another world for 100+ hours in Skyrim. Whatever rocks your gaming world, remember to follow This Is My Joystick on Facebook and Twitter to ensure you never pay £39.99 for a game again.
