Broken Sword dusted off for a fifth installment
August 24, 2012, Author: Ray Willmott
Broken Sword, one of the most popular point-and-click adventure game series, will return next year in glorious, high-definition 2D!
The adventures of George and Nico were the stuff of legend back in the late 90’s. Between the Shadow of the Templars and the Smoking Mirror, there are many fond memories to be had.
However, both third and forth games were created in 3D to meet the ‘trend’ that was developing throughout the industry. While both sold fairly well, neither captured the essence of the series and all it stood for.
All seemed lost for the future of Broken Sword.
Now thanks to the power of Kickstarter and a reinvigorated enthusiasm in series creator, Charles Cecil, Broken Sword is coming back for a fifth instalment and, for the first time ever, the development house have full creative freedom to make this the definitive Broken Sword experience.
Entitled ‘The Serpent’s Curse’, the project brings back many of the old team together, including the original voice actor for George Stobbart, Rolf Saxon, and an assemble of artists from world-renowned studios to bring this 2D adventure to life.
The premise of the game from the official Kickstarter page is as follows…
When a mysterious painting is stolen during an armed raid on a Paris gallery, George and Nico are thrown by chance into the investigation together. From Paris to London and beyond, the trail becomes a race against time as dark forces from Europe’s turbulent past are woken from their slumber. Broken Sword characters old and new are encountered – but who can George and Nico trust? The journey they are on reveals a conspiracy as old as the written word, whose ancient heresies will cause innocent blood to spill once more…
The studio have a target of $400,000 in order to get the project off the ground. As of writing, they have 29 days to go, and have made over $145,000. If you want to contribute, then all you have to do is head right over here
Kickstarter is a perfect avenue for Revolution Software to get this highly anticipated project off the ground. You can bet that the team here will be following this story closely.
